Developer Ambient Studios, launched in 2011 by former Media Molecule veterans, has been forced to close down, the company has announced. It's upcoming game Death Inc. failed to meet a Kickstarter goal earlier this month.

"We're super proud of what we achieved, but ultimately we didn't manage to make enough money to keep the wolves from the door," the company said on its website. "And so we had to make the difficult decision that it is no longer feasible for Ambient to continue operating."

After the Death Inc.'s crowdfunding failed, the company had tried to keep things going with alpha funding for the game. People who backed the game will be getting refunds.

The company had also developed and released Monster Meltdown for iOS.
