Company of Heroes 2 beta access granted for Facebook like

Company of Heroes 2 has opened the second phase of its beta, allowing anyone who "likes" the game on Facebook access for a limited time.

Company of Heroes 2 has just opened the second phase of its beta test. This one makes for much easier entry than the first phase, which was reserved especially for pre-orders.

In phase two, you can gain access to the closed beta by simply hitting the "like" button on the game's Facebook page. That will give you access to a key generation tool, granting you a key to use on Steam. If you're already a fan, you still have access to the key generator. The announcement notes it's for a limited time, but a representative told Shacknews that caveat is to prepare for the open beta.

The beta features the competitive multiplayer and skirmish modes across six maps, along with the ability to play with teammates against AI. You can rank up to level 40, and customize your loadouts.

"After a successful first phase, we are delighted to be able to open the Closed Beta up to all of our Facebook fans and invite them to help us test and improve the game," producer Greg Wilson said in the announcement.

I've played BETA and its basically same game construct with new variables and a leveling up factor. Core gameplay is still there. The color palatee is a little washed out and I think they need to do more with explosions but otherwise I've had some fun mulitplayer battles.

I don't get how you get the beta key. Do they send it to your email once you "Like" it in FB? Or is there somewhere else you have to go?

Guess it's pretty settled now that this game isn't going to support XP. Steam should really notify you before you download a game that isn't for your OS.

Well they don't mention that a game won't run on Win98/95/3.2 or DOS either. But should they have to? XP is a different base architecture than Vista/7/8. I think most new games don't support XP anymore. There really isn't a reason to upgrade at this point, the votes are in with 7 pretty much being unanimously declared MS's best OS. 8 is a fucking joke, though - add dumb shit, remove important shit, and voila. Fuck you, 8.

I think it has more to do with DirectX than 'base architecture'. MS long said they were using DirectX as a means to push gamers onto the newer oses.

It does: "256MB Direct3D 10 capable video card (GeForce 8800 or RadeonHD 2900)" is listed as minimum. Anyone who calls themselves a gamer knows dx10 is not going to run in XP. Been that way for... oh I don't know since dx10 came out 6-7- years ago?

I pre-ordered months ago so I've had the beta since it first became available.

Honestly, it's pretty good. A little weird at first but as someone said, the core game is still there, just added depth.

I've logged 1000s of hours in COH but what really kept me playing were the mods. If COH was any indication, COH2 will have plenty of mods to keep me going for years.

Blitzkrieg, Modern Combat, Eastern Front etc. Tho Blitzkrieg mod is still the best imo for COH.

Can't wait to see what they do with COH2.
