We knew StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm would be a hot commodity when it was released, given its near fanatical multiplayer and eSports following. Blizzard confirmed just how hot the title was today, announcing that the game had sold about 1.1 million copies in the first 48 hour hours.

"We want to thank the global StarCraft community for the incredible passion and support they've shown for Heart of the Swarm," Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, said in a release. "In addition to a brand-new single-player campaign, we added a ton of enhancements with this expansion to make StarCraft II even more fun to play, and more exciting to watch. We're pleased to see gamers and eSports fans around the world enjoying Heart of the Swarm."
Of course, Blizzard is no stranger to big sellers. Just last year, Diablo 3 sold 3.5 million copies within 24 hours of its release in May, and World of WarCraft: Mists of Pandaria sold 2.7 million within the first week of it hitting shelves in September.
