Disney Infinity delayed to August 18
Disney Infinity has been delayed into August 18, from its previous June release date.
The toy-game hybrid Disney Infinity has been delayed to August 18, Disney has announced. The company said the new release date puts it at a more favorable time of year than its previous June target, but even at the new date it should beat Skylanders Swap Force to market.
Disney Interactive co-president John Pleasants recognized the value in hitting stores early. "We think it’s good to be first and really lean into the most important selling season of the year," he told the New York Times. The new date shifts the game away from the release of Monsters University, but lands the game in a quieter time of year which Pleasants hopes will lead to more shelf space and toy-trading as kids go back to school.
"We could deliver in June if we wanted to,” Pleasants said. "Will a two-month timing change help us? Sure, of course. It gives us a little more time to add bells and whistles and make sure it really sings and pops."
