It should come as no surprise that Nintendo is working on a new Zelda title for Wii U, but since it may be a long way off the company is producing a remake of one of its most beloved series titles as well. Nintendo teased some tidbits about its next new game, along with a Wind Waker rerelease. Then, aside from the teasers for new Zelda and Mario titles, Nintendo announced a few other franchise surprises during its Nintendo Direct presentation today. Among them, the company revealed a new Wii U Yoshi game, a party game, and a couple of interesting RPGs. Finally, not much was revealed about Platinum Games upcoming superhero smash-em-up The Wonderful 101 (formerly Project P-100) in today's Nintendo Direct, but a new trailer was released for the game, showing the heroes forming up to battle some bad guys.

Ryan are you on something ? Seriously...

Nintendo brings the biggest Nintendo Direct ever, with more annoucements than in the previous 2 E3 gamewise and it still not good enough ?

Where that stupid and arrongant Negativity is coming from ? Do you get some payckecks from Nintendo competitors ?

This Shacknews daily is a disgrace and goes at reverse with all the positive and enthusiastic feeback from all gamerz and "proper" videogames journalists ( IGN, Gamesradar, Gamespot, Gameinformer, 1UP, Jostiq and so on ).

A brand new 3D Mario game from EAD Tokyo will be playable at E3 and it's nothing ?

Monoliyh new game trailer ? Nothing ?

Nintendo needs a new franchise already.

Xenoblade. And no, that's not part of the Xenosaga series. I don't care what they named it..... it didn't even start out with that title.

Monolith trailer was rad. Cut for time.

I'm not alone in the Nintendo skepticism. Of course I respect Nintendo, shit I grew up with every Nintendo console, that's why it irks me that they are abandoning core gamers for casual sales. I frankly just want to be wow'd by Nintendo like I used to be and it's highly disappointing that Nintendo is limping into the next gen.

Also too, these are just my opinions written and shot moments after watching the Direct so I'm def open to having a dialogue any time.

PS I don't think the plethora of drugs skewed any of my opinions.

Here here! How many new IP's have Sony and Micros. birthed and nourished in this console cycle? It's really impressive if you look at it in those terms.

I must agree... I have more than enough on my list at this point to keep me busy all year long on the WiiU. I know a lot of people just love to be negative about Nintendo, but this Nintendo Direct was just full of good news for the WiiU. But not only that, it showed that Nintendo is changing how they communicate about their plans.

Sure they need to find a format that works better for the western market, but I'll give them props for being more open, and showing stuff that is still early in dev.

Perhaps there needs to be a voice in the gaming media that balances all of the 20-something gamers that want more COD... I'm stoked for everything shown on WiiU. I work in the industry as a level designer, and I know first hand how hard it is to please gamers... People need to open their minds. Games are fun, making gaming news negative is just stupid.

I think you are exagerating a little bit but I do agree that this Daily came across as a little overly negative. There was some cool stuff in that Nintendo Direct. The Xenogears trailer was HUGE to me. I don't own a Wii U and didn't plan on every owning one... but man... that game is making me change my mind. Also, Wind Waker HD is a pretty big deal in looked gorgeous. It's a great game which a lot of gamers today might not have gotten a chance to play.

I'm not surprised at all. Shacknews has never given fair and equal treatment to Nintendo. This is why I don't come to shack for the news. I come for Weekend Confirmed and only occassionally click on a news story.

I don't understand why the Shack has always been so negative on anything Nintendo-related... it's either "well of course they're doing that" or "it's about time they did that". I thought the news in this Nintendo Direct was actually quite cool. Lots of new Miiverse features, cool third party games (that Xenoblade game looked sweet), and Wind Waker revamp are all good. Plus the new virtual console with GBA games?! And at least they're admitting the menu load times are too long, and they're trying to address it with the upcoming system updates. Good news about upcoming games and sincere effort to address some flaws in the Wii U? What's not to like?

So absolutely nothing in this SNDaily about the MonolithSoft game nor the SMT X Fire Emblem game? That should've at least been in the "alright" section, if not the good.

Very true, I have to cut these down to around 3 mins and sometimes leave out some important stuff. The Monolith title did look great.

Ok, I can see how I came across overly negative but this is Nintendo we are talking about. If there is any company that should be held to a high standard they are it. There was once a time when Nintendo represented the best video games had to offer in every category. Now they've basically shifted all their priorities towards the casual. The launch was by all accounts underwhelming, software-wise. Even Iwata had to apologize numerous times in this video. That's kind of crazy. When the Xbox and PS3 launched Sony and MIcros. knew they had to blow us away because they had no fan boys. Nintendo has been resting on 20 year old IP's that bank on gamer nostalgia and, frankly, they've made a ton of bad decisions and have been passed up. I will admit that I'm not a not a huge nintendo fan to begin with. I grew up playing every and all Nintendo games, had every console. But they lost me at the Wii. Hey they made a ton of money, but they decided to change their demo. Maybe I'm just bitter over that.

Also, how do you all not feel jerked around by how Nintendo is treating Zelda?!?!? I stood in Nintendo's booth at E3 two E3's ago (TWO!!!) watching a gorgeous Zelda tech demo.

We only have about 3 mins and I had to cut the Monolith talk. It did look beautiful.

Zelda games take a long time to make dude. You aren't entitled to a game every 3 years.

I'm not coming at it from the standpoint that I deserve a Zelda, I'm saying that it was a gigantic missed opportunity to not have it available at launch let alone a year plus after the launch.
