Lego Marvel Super Heroes coming this fall
TT Games and Warner Bros Interactive announced Lego Marvel Super Heroes today, a mash-up that features 100-plus Marvel characters dispatching villains like Loki and Galactus. It's due this fall.
When Lego puts out building sets based on popular franchises, a new licensed video game can't be far behind. The Batman incarnation expanded to include more of the Justice League roster in Lego Batman 2, and with new Marvel sets banking on the popularity of The Avengers the time is ripe for Marvel to get in on the action. Lego Marvel Super Heroes will be coming to PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, DS, 3DS, and Vita this fall.
TT Games is basing this title around the Marvel brand in general instead of one particular hero. The game will feature Nick Fury sending out an all-call to as many Marvel superheroes as he can find, in an effort to stop villainous threats. Apparently the manager of SHIELD has a lot of supers on his speed-dial, because the game will include a roster of more than 100 characters. Those include Spider-Man, Iron Man, Wolverine, Captain America, the Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Deadpool, Loki, and Galactus. That last one seems a little game-breaking, but we'll give them the benefit of the doubt if it means we get to devour some worlds.
Lego games come out at such a fast pace that it may be easy to tune them out, but TT Games latest, Lego Lord of the Rings, made some smart improvements to the formula and received a positive reception from critics.
"Fans of both LEGO and Marvel have wanted this game for years, and we're addressing that demand with more Marvel Universe characters than ever in a console game," said Marvel games VP TQ Jefferson, in the announcement. "If you're a fan of Spider-Man, the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy or scores of other Marvel characters, this is the game for you."
Yes, Marvel nerds, he mentioned Guardians of the Galaxy. That kind of semi-obscure reference means that the inclusion of Rocket Raccoon is a distinct possibility. If so: GOTY.
