Walking Dead: Survival Instinct to feature TV voice talent

While Telltale's heart-wrenching adventure series The Walking Dead is based squarely on the comics, the upcoming shooter from Activision (subtitled Survival Instinct) is based on the television adaptation. So naturally, a few of the show's most iconic actors are lending their voices to the game.

Activision and developer Terminal Reality announced today that actors Norman Reedus and Michael Rooker will reprise their roles of Daryl and Merle Dixon, respectively. As previously reported, the game puts you in the role of the fan-favorite character Daryl, rather than his somewhat dumb, extremely racist brother. The two attempt to find safety in Atlanta, in a story that takes place just before the two run into the show's band of survivors. The game promises some new characters as well, who will no doubt be sociopaths or zombie chow. Maybe both.

The game is scheduled to hit PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 in 2013.

I think the game has better writing than the comic, especially recently.

I've read like 100 issues of the comic and I agree.

The comics (up to current) are a lot better when you can read them in large batches.

Reading them month-to-month everything feels much more drawn out, because relatively little happens in each chapter, you're always wanting more, and it's another month for more to come. Reading a year or two worth at a time, however, everything is much more pressing, tight, and remains good (imo).

Question for you guys, I just picked up the game in the recent Steam sale. I'm on Episode 2 of Season 2 of the TV show.

Do I need to be or should I be up to date with the show before I play the game? I don't wanna spoil anything for myself you see.

Haven't read the comics, (well, half of the first one, my m8 has the lot) so the show is my only touchstone with the fiction. Is the game related at all to the show?

I'm trying like hell to avoid spoilers so please, do a guy a favour and leave them out.

      Thanks!

You don't need to know a single thing about the comics or the show to play the game.

A couple of characters from the comics show up, but knowing they're from the comics won't really change your play experience.
