Johann Sebastian Joust officially coming to PS3 and PC via Sportsfriends
Johann Sebastian Joust is a critically acclaimed multiplayer game for PlayStation Move that features no graphics. And it's going to get an official PS3 and PC release--with your help.
Johann Sebastian Joust is a critically acclaimed multiplayer game for PlayStation Move that features no graphics. "Players try to jostle their opponents' controllers while protecting their own. How fast you can move your controller depends on the varying tempo of the music." It's experimental, odd, and absolutely thrilling. Unfortunately, it's been an experience only available at gaming conventions.
Until now.
Douglas Wilson, Ramiro Corbetta, Bennett Foddy, and Noah Sasso are joining forces to release Sportsfriends, a collection of four local multiplayer games: BaraBariBall, Super Pole Riders, and Hokra--in addition to Joust, of course. The collection is coming to PlayStation Network, followed by PC, Mac, and Linux.
"Publishers aren't interested in local multiplayer-only games, so that's where you come in. We need Kickstarter funding to make this project happen." Contributions of $15 or more will guarantee access to the collection.
Sony's Pub Fund is contributing, but the project requires more funds to properly port the games and bring them all together--hence the call for crowdsourced funding. "We'll need to hire two expert multi-platform programmers to port all the games. The four of us are primarily designers, so we can't do it ourselves. We're eager to get these games out to the public, so we want to hire programmers who can help us do this efficiently," the Kickstarter page explains.
Should the team meet its ambitious $150,000 goal, the collection will debut as a PS3 download in Fall 2013, with the Mac/PC/Linux release to follow. Do note that Hokra, Super Pole Riders, and BaraBariBall will require controllers, and the team will try to support "a wide range." Joust will require PlayStation Move and Bluetooth--although the team is also "investigating" Sixaxis and Wii Remote support for the PC release.
