I agree 100%, yet I feel like we may be in the minority looking at the Youtube videos of people freaking out playing Amnesia.
After many friends raved about it, I finally took the plunge. There wasn't a single scary moment in the entire game to me.
Why? Because my in-game character has a bad heart and starts getting winded looking at a Goddamned brick wall!
"Forced fear" just makes things annoying and cheesier; all the best horror devs/movie houses know to let the fear/angst build in the player's mind. Our own minds determine what will be "scary". Heavy breathing and a loud heartbeat just make me horny.
Amnesia: Sounds of Heavy Petting would have been a better title.
