Former Ubisoft vets who have worked on games including Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell: Conviction, and Prince of Persia have formed a new indie team: Red Barrels. The developer's first game is a survival horror title set in an asylum in the mountains of Colorado. As a journalist, players are tasked with finding out the truth about the facility.

"Our team has a lot of previous experience creating big, blockbuster games," said co-founder David Chateauneuf. "We're all really excited to see what kind of fear-based emotional rollercoaster we can build on our own!"

Outlast is expected to come out on PC some time next year.

"Set in an asylum" and "As a journalist, players are tasked with finding out the truth about the facility" make it sound like it follows that reporter from the 2nd season of American Horror Story.

Interesting. There is clearly more room in the survival horror genre now the Resident Evil has officially left the building.

Amnesia is probably the creepiest game I've ever played. I actually have to build up the courage to fire it up each time.

That would've been something. Imagine "Outcast" but with better characters and more immersive storytelling. Those worlds were so beautiful.
