If you haven't been one of the lucky ones honing their mech skills in preparation for the launch of MechWarrior Online later this year, then you'll want to jump into the open beta when it kicks off October 16.

The game has been in closed beta since late May. You can grab your pilot name and register for the beat at the official site.

If you haven't gotten into the Founder's Program, you better hurry, because publisher Infinite Games plans to close entry at midnight on October 14. The Legendary package for a cool $120, comes withe all four Founder's BattleMechs, and other perks. The Elite package--and your choice of one Founder's mech--can be had for $60, while the Veterans package is available for $30.

So there's no more XP/credit wipes after this goes open beta, right?

        That's what they've been advertising.

They've also been suspiciously vague in commenting on if they'll start ticking down premium days at the open beta start. Regardless, they have some serious work to do after yesterdays patch, as the game is barely playable at this point with all the client side crashes and massive server instabilities.

I played for about an hour last night and didn't see any issues at all.

I haven't checked the forums lately, are these widespread issues or just from personal experience? I played a couple rounds last night without issue.

There were some lag issues that they patched server side and seem fine now. There's a known issue with crashing on exit that I've seen, but I've never crashed while in-game.

Mercfox1 crashed like 4 times tonight. Over the course of a couple hours, I racked up two crashes, and had 3-4 matches that we all had to quit out of due to massive server lag/instabilities. None of these issues were present prior to yesterdays patch.

"If you haven't been one of the lucky ones to be honing their mech skills in preparation for the launch of MechWarrior Online later this year..." Well, according to PGI Open Beta IS the launch of MWO, since any one with Premium Time will have it activate once Open Beta starts. There's quite a few people on the Beta Forums that are unhappy with this because of how the game is running at the moment, some are even unable to play because of low performance due to the last couple of patches. Now they'll have their Premium Time ticking down while not even able to play the game.

Open Beta shouldn't be starting for at least another month until they have the graphical issues fixed (like the horrible looking film grain, which there is a fix for that was made by one of the users) that were introduced in this latest patch and have an overhauled Match Making system in place.

I've played MWO and Hawken both a bit, I'm in betas for both... so far I like Hawken more. Though neither are really exciting me. Gameplay is too singularly focused for my liking. I need a progressive SP campaign to engage.
