Timesplitters 2 HD was active project, canceled in 2008
Former Free Radical developers talk about canceled projects like a Timesplitters 2 HD remake, and why old Rare games on Xbox 360 stopped with Banjo Kazooie.
Years later, former team members of Free Radical are opening up about some scuttled projects from the old days. Among the canceled projects: Timesplitters 2 HD.
"We had an 'HD' downloadable version of TimeSplitters 2 in development at Free Radical in 2008," former staffer Steve Ellis revealed. "I don't know what happened to that but yes, I'd love to see it released at some point."
The TimeSplitters franchise has been long dormant, and its fans have been asking for a sequel for quite some time. Ellis told NotEnoughShaders that the release of an HD remix could reignite the franchise. "Maybe it could be the catalyst that is required in order to raise enough interest in TimeSplitters 4 that a publisher might want to fund it."
Of course, Timesplitters isn't completely dead. Free Radical was acquired by Crytek in 2009, and the parent company mentioned a free-to-play entry of the franchise as part of its F2P push.
