Beneath a Steel Sky 2 coming despite missing Kickstarter goal

Revolution Software's Kickstarter campaign to crowd-fund Broken Sword: The Serpent's Curse was a huge success, doubling its initial goal of $400,000. While it smashed through several goals, it fell short of the big, exciting target for $1,000,000--a sequel to dystopian adventure game Beneath a Steel Sky. Happily, Revolution now says that it'll go ahead and make that anyway.

Revolution Software's Kickstarter campaign to crowd-fund Broken Sword: The Serpent's Curse was a huge success, doubling its initial goal of $400,000. While it smashed through several stretch goals, it fell short of the big, exciting target for $1,000,000--a sequel to dystopian adventure game Beneath a Steel Sky. Happily, Revolution now says that it'll go ahead and make that anyway.

"We're delighted by the recent level of interest in a sequel to Beneath a Steel Sky and are currently discussing design ideas for this project which we plan to go into development following the release of Broken Sword - The Serpent's Curse," co-founder Tony Warriner told Develop.

He added, "We're deeply touched that our Steel Sky fans are as enthusiastic today as they were when the original game released in 1994."

The original Beneath a Steel Sky is free on GOG, or $3 for iThings.

Broken Sword: The Serpent's Curse ended up with over $800,000, including payments through Paypal. Revolution will make it for PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, and possibly consoles too.

I never played the full game, as I was only 7 or 8, but I played the shit out of the Beneath a Steel Sky demo. Its one of my best gaming memories.

I'm currently working near a remote town with a basic internet connection and a tablet. My laptop won't survive the conditions :(

I withdraw and regret my mild snark. Any adventure gameplay is good adventure gameplay. I remember the dark days of 2001-2006 when I thought the genre was just completely dead.

You should also give Gemini Rue a try. It's a newer, better, uglier game in the same vibe.

Damn didint know this kick starter existed!

BaSS was one of the best point and clicks from that era, truly fantastic and unique game experience. I really recommend it to anyone who's playing adventures from that period.
