Forza Horizon preview
Simulation racers just happened to be the natural outlet for that energy in the videogame world when they sat down to do it. With Forza Horizon the team hopes to find a different expression that triggers a more emotional response.

Hmm..sounds more like Project Gotham Racing. I though that game was the perfect balance between arcade and sim. I think I'll check this out. I can always pop Forza 4 back in when I need my cock-pit view simulation experience. Sometimes however, I just want a more arcady experience with a touch of realism. For me, Burnout takes it too far into the arcadey feel. It sounds like this may hit the "sweet spot" for me.

They are not 1:1. The team spent three weeks in Colorado cataloging 100s of miles of road and then used that to recreate a scaled version for the game. There's still a lot of real estate with ample variety of canyon, hillside, and other twisties...plus off road stuff since a chunk of the crew also worked on DiRT.

Any word on control configurability? I love GT5's "any command to any button" setup, and after that, was disappointed in Forza 4's "a few predefined configs with some button swaps" config.
I'm weird, but my GT5 config has throttle on R2 and brake on square. I prefer to isolate my left hand to steering, and if I have the brake on L2, it affects my steering when braking. I have downshift as L1 and upshift as R1. I could not find a config in Forza 4 that could be comfortable, so I went with the default, awkwardly bumbling around, not being able to master brake pressure, and being way off on either timing or steering when entering a curve.
I do have a racing wheel, but I need more practice time, in real-life autocross as well as the games. I can't seem to react in time or with an appropriate reaction since I can't sense the inertia shift.
