The PlanetSide 2 beta was supposed to kick off today, "barring any unforeseen circumstances." Oh no! Unforeseen circumstances have arisen, and it'll now be a few days late, to ensure it's all polished and shiny. No one wants a free-to-play MMOFPS caked in crud and filth, after all.
"Had planned for today or tomorrow but we have some stuff we need to make sure is awesome," SOE president John Smedley explained on Twitter. He added, "the team is working like crazy but we need to polish some stuff and test it before we let in a massive # of people."
The beta is now "likely" to start on Friday or Monday, Smedley said.

Never played the original, my PC and net connection at the time were far too rubbish. Pretty excited to play this!

Yea I was a big fan of the original. Really was a game ahead of its time. Even in the largest Battlefield style games you never really get the incredible experience of coordinating with twenty-some-odd players persistently across a much larger landscape. Having a great Outfit (PS1's version of clans/guilds) made all the difference.
Really stoked for this one.
