With QuakeCon almost upon us--August 2-5 in Dallas, Quakeamaniacs--we finally have the full lineup of panels of men talking about things. Along with the classic John Carmack keynote, QuakeCon 2012 will have a look back at Looking Glass Studios, the sorely-missed creator of Thief and System Shock, a live recording of the Idle Thumbs podcast with its classic lineup, and not one, but two panels about mods.

It's certainly an interesting lineup this year, with panel members from a wide range of studios and a heartening dose of PC love. There's still no mention of Doom 4, though. If you want to play games rather than hear clever people talk about them, Dishonored, Doom 3: BFG Edition and more will be on the show floor.

Look, here's the panel schedule:

Notice that it said "SKYRIM, modding, and Steam". As usual after the acquisition, Bethesda is reppin' hard at QuakeCon.

QuakeCon 2012 has both an id mod panel and a Skyrim mod panel.

Ah, there it is; I glazed over it.

I'm still not optimistic about Rage mod support; they spent plenty of time talking about how hard it was to work with megatexture tech, and aside from the rumored Scorcher DLC, Id probably is going full steam on Doom 3 BFG.

Fuck all this Skyrim shit, fun game but seriously an MMO now? Give it a rest and stick to Doom 4 & Quake 5... Bethesda needs to let ID do what they are known for... FPS.

This is what I came here to say. Is there any sort of Rage post mortem?

when i hear Looking Glass retrospective, i imagine an Ultima Underworld, System Shock, and Thief rerelease box set remaster in HD with updated audio and a comprehensive booklet with loads of behind-the-scenes stories and information from the studio's history.
