Firefall shows off Engineer, Medic updates
Firefall is getting a large summer update with adjustments to its classes, and today it showed off two of those: the Engineer, and newly dubbed Biotech (formerly Medic)
Firefall is getting its big summer update soon, and it's packing some large changes to classes. Red 5 Studios teased two of the largest changes, to the Engineer and Medic classes. For one thing, the Medic won't be called a Medic anymore, but rather a "Biotech."
Two trailers (via PC Gamer) show off the classes. The Biotech class gives him a better escape route by using noxious fumes, and his instant revive will require a closer approach than before. The Engineer, meanwhile, can use a lightning canon that stacks damage based on time targeting the enemy, and he can use multiple mini-turrets and shields.

Well, the movement in the game is a little bit like Tribes but quite a bit slower. You have jetpacks but you can't 'ski' down slopes etc. There are PvP arenas which play like slower Tribes matches in tighter areas and they are a lot of fun. The main world is more of a standard MMO with quests etc a bit like WoW. The look and design of the game is kind of stylized and has a bit of a Borderlands feel to it. It has just a touch of that kind of tune shaded look to it. With all the settings cranked up the game is gorgeous, especially the huge landscapes.
Last time I played the PvP was very tight and a lot of fun... it seems like they are putting a lot of time into that. The MMO PvE stuff was fun at first because the combat is more twitch based than stats based. In a way you are playing a WoW type game but with real 1st/3rd person shooter mechanics. They have to work on the PvE part of the game quite a bit though because the quests run out very quickly and it just kind of becomes a grind. But they are working on it and have plans for it.

Well, they are in beta but it's kind of a weird beta... they are planning on being in beta for a long time.. they will just continue to work on the game and keep adding people gradually by giving existing players invites to pass out. It's not like they have a two month beta then the game comes out. The game will be in a beta for a long time until one day they just decide it's done and then they flip the switch and let everybody in. At least that's how it was described to me by one of the team at PAX East.

The game's original focus was team based PvE if I recall correctly. You were to harvest minerals and what not while holding off the hordes of aliens that would be attracted to your drillers. Looked like a great coop game. Since its turned into another "Tribes" or TF2 style game, my interest has waned.
