Metal Gear Solid 4 getting trophy patch
Four years later, Metal Gear Solid 4 is finally getting a patch to add trophies.
When trophies were first introduced to PlayStation 3 years ago, many fans had hoped that Konami would release a patch for Metal Gear Solid 4. While hopes were long dashed, it seems fans voices have finally been heard.
Four years after the game made its debut, the Guns of the Patriots will be getting its long-overdue trophy patch. The patch will coincide with the Japanese budget reissue of the game in August.
Many thought trophies would be added when the game went "Greatest Hits" in America back in 2010. However, that didn't end up being the case. According to Andriasang, the trophy patch will be applicable to current owners of Metal Gear Solid 4. It's time to dust off your Blu-ray discs, and get ready for hours of installation fun.

It's amazing to me how MGS has disappeared from public consciousness. It was a huge franchise for the PS2 but now you ask people to list PS3 exclusives and you'll invariably hear Uncharted, God of War and even Heavy Rain before MGS4 comes up. And then you ask what people are looking forward to and no one mentions a potential new MGS game.

Despite having thought out stories and scenarios for the game, Kojima Productions were finding it difficult to design the game around the cutting concept. The project was quietly cancelled in late 2010, and whilst Kojima had considered moving the project to developers abroad, he felt that a Japanese developer would be more suited to produce a ninja action game. In early 2011, Kojima approached Tatsuya Minami, president and CEO of Platinum Games, about restarting the cancelled project with them. Platinum Games accepted the project and took over development with Atsushi Inaba as producer, reworking the game from scratch using their own engine, whilst Kojima Productions handling cutscenes and story elements, revising the story to now take place after Metal Gear Solid 4 to reflect the new development style.[34] This new version, now titled Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, was first revealed via a trailer shown at the Spike Video Game Awards on December 10, 2011.[35][36] Shortly after starting development, Platinum Games discarded the stealth element from game with Kojima noting that the original staff did not find it would be fitting with high speed actions.

considering how many people pine for something like The Last Guardian which has nothing but many years old teaser material and no releases from the company this generation at all? Yes. MGS was a tent pole franchise for Sony last generation and now it seems forgotten. Like I said, when you ask about PS3 exclusives it seems increasingly forgotten where as something like Heavy Rain isn't even though it's quite old itself.
Then you look at something like the threads/news/podcasts before E3 press conferences saying 'what do you hope to see?' Now 4 years later and it doesn't seem like there were many people asking 'come on where's new MGS already?' like they do for lots of other franchises (I will even count 'where's new Kojima stuff?' in the same bucket to account for the wrapping up of story elements in MGS4 even though I don't really think that's a factor here).-
Weird because every "I'm finally buying a Ps3, what games should I buy?" post all I see is Mgs4 and Demons Souls. This game was basically a launch title, while all those other games are newer. Mgs games are basically the only games I purchase day 1 anymore. The sad fact is a franchises popularity fades a bit from time to time when the development cycles are 4-5 years per title. Its still an awesome game and one of the best PS3 games.
