Project Sora, the studio behind Kid Icarus: Uprising, has been closed. The company announced that it was dissolved as of June 30, though studio founder Masahiro Sakurai is still working on projects for Nintendo in his own capacity.

The announcement came from the company Web site (via Andriasang). The studio was formed in 2009 as a second-party venture for Nintendo, with Sakurai taking the lead hot on the heels of Super Smash Bros Brawl. Kid Icarus: Uprising was the studio's only game.

Sakurai himself is still working as the director for the next Smash Bros game, which is being developed by Namco Bandai.

Not sure about sales, but it seemed to be well liked by those who did get it, apart from the awkward controls already mentioned.

Yeah, I heard on several podcasts how much people like it and I plan to buy it someday. It looks like a great game. Too bad.
