Tekken x Street Fighter to remain current-gen game
Little is known about Tekken x Street Fighter. However, Namco Bandai producer says that it would be best to release the game on this generation, not the next.
Little is known about Tekken x Street Fighter, Namco Bandai's 3D turn at a mash-up fighter. In fact, it's unclear if any significant work has been done on the game, given the team's focus on Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Although a release is nowhere in sight, Namco Bandai believes it best to release the game on the current generation of consoles.
"There's still a large number of players out there with a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 who are looking forward to the game," Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada said. "So we feel it's probably more relevant to get the title out to them on the current hardware."
There's still a lot of work to be done, however. Last year, Harada admitted that the team hadn't quite figured out how to do fireballs (a Street Fighter staple) in a 3D plane.
With next-gen consoles looming for release late next year, will Tekken x Street Fighter be too late to the party? While it seems like Namco Bandai is eying a PS3/Xbox 360 release, there's hope that it could move to next-gen. "We're not completely sure," Harada told Eurogamer, "but that's the direction at this moment."
