Zombie RPG Dead State launches Kickstarter
I know, I know, you're sick of zombies and you're tired of Kickstarter, but there are good reasons to be interested in turn-based zombie survival RPG Dead State.
No, wait! It's not what you think. You may be sick of zombies and tired of Kickstarter, but there are reasons to be excited about Dead State. Look, see, it's an isometric turn-based RPG harkening back to ye goode olde dayes, and the brains behind it have written for games including Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines and Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir during tenures at Black Isle, Troika, Obsidian and ArenaNet. Surely that's enough to pique your interest?
Dead State is a turn-based RPG with deep dialogue and event systems, focusing on surviving rather than blasting the black blood out of every zombie you see. Leading a group of survivors, you'll be fortifying a shelter, scavenging for supplies, keeping everyone happy, and making the tough calls when things inevitably go bad.
It's being made by DoubleBear Productions, an indie studio founded by Brian Mitsoda and Annie VanderMeer Mitsoda, who between them have racked up the aforementioned impressive credentials. The team's been working on Dead State for quite some time now, but has launched the Kickstarter campaign for $150,000 to land enough cash to finish up.
Pledging at least $15 will get you a DRM-free download of Dead State for PC, which is apparently half the amount it'll cost when it launches. Should you pledge more, you could get your name, zombified face, a message, or even a personal story into the game.
