Red Orchestra 2 GOTY edition announced
Red Orchestra 2 is getting a free "Game of the Year Edition" content pack, which will update all current owners' games as well. Plus, it's offering a free Steam weekend to ring in the new additions.
Here's yet another Game of the Year edition for you, folks. Tripwire Interactive has announced a re-release for Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad, thanks to a nod from PC Gamer. This means a new free content pack for all current owners of the game, plus a free Steam weekend to try out the game and decide if you want to give it a go.
The content pack will feature an "Action" mode with a crosshair, easier aiming, toned down recoil, reduced damage, and access to a lot of weapons from the get-go; a "Classic" mode with a more tactical feel from the first game; a new Mamayev Kurgan map; and various adjustments to vehicles and game performance.
The game's free Steam weekend will start at 10 AM Pacific time this Thursday, May 24, and lasts through Sunday, May 27. The new content pack will launch sometime before the free weekend, so you'll be able to try it out.

Personally, I don't like how re-releases are called GOTY editions if they haven't won numerous GOTY awards (and I'm talking overall GOTY, not shooter of the year or RPG of the year). Looks like Red Orchestra 2 is justifying calling it a GOTY edition because they won a shooter of the year award from PC Gamer magazine.
