Kotomon hits iOS store from Child of Eden lead programmer
A former lead programmer for Q Entertainment has created his own iOS app, Kotomon. It blends touch-based action tropes with rhythm and adorable monsters.
A cute dancing-shooting hybrid has hit the iOS store, with a pedigree from the lead programmer of Child of Eden. Kotomon uses touch controls to catch friendly monsters and then shoot them at enemy monsters. Each comes with its own unique power, and the moves add different beats to the background music.
The App Store listing teases abilities like bouncing around pinball-style, breathing fire, or exploding on impact. You can create combos between the abilities for high scores, and influence the soundtrack by selecting among the little creatures.
James Mielke of Q Entertainment tweeted that the game was made by the lead programmer behind Child of Eden, who also served as a programmer on Rez. That sounds like a pretty good basis for a genre-blending rhythm game. It's available for $2.99.
