Rumor: GTA V planned for October launch

Information has surfaced on a Rockstar Games employee's LinkedIn page (and his CV, which has since been removed) indicating that Grand Theft Auto V is planned for an October release.

A rumor about the projected launch window for Rockstar North's latest video game opus, Grand Theft Auto V, is making the rounds. Though Rockstar has yet to confirm or deny the associated speculation, character animator Alex O'Dwyer recently posted information to both his LinkedIn profile and CV (Curriculum Vitae), indicating that the game is planned to launch in October.

As noticed by Joystiq, O'Dwyer's CV has since been deleted from existence, but his LinkedIn page is still alive and kicking.

Rockstar typically only releases one major flagship title in a given year. If Grand Theft Auto V actually arrives this October, or thereabouts, both it and Max Payne 3 will share 2012 release dates. That said, if Grand Theft Auto V and Irrational's Bioshock Infinite both come out in October, it'd result in one of this year's biggest release months for 2012.

This news isn't spectacular enough... it should also say "to coincide with the release of the XBox720 and Playstation 4".

If the new MS/Sony platforms were really coming next year, wouldn't Rockstar want to make GTA V a launch title and clean up?

Launch titles are fraught with risk. Hardware changing up to the last minute, SDK's in constant flux, and certification guidelines with unexpected gotchas, all lead to launch titles generally being smaller, more focused affairs.

I wouldn't think so, because they won't get as many sales on a new system launch then they would on the current systems. Granted it would help push the new systems, but the install base would still be a lot larger with the current systems. Now I could see them releasing it for both, but I don't actually think the next systems are coming next year anyway. Past that I really hope this rumor is actually true, but let's be honest, its probably not going to come out until Aprilish of 2013

I'm more curious as to the status of possible PC and Wii U versions.

I'd be getting the PC version of course, but I hope the Wii U does well and it would be a huge coup for Nintendo if GTA V was a Wii U launch title with exclusive tablet functionality.

I think everything will be made clear at E3 in two months.
