Epic Games working on new PC-only title
At a PAX East panel this weekend, Epic Games' Mike Capps and Cliffy B said they are working on a PC-exclusive game.
It has been a long time since Epic Games revealed anything that wasn't Gears of War or Unreal Engine related. That was until this weekend. No info is really available other that the fact a new game is in development. Cliffy B said so.
At an Epic Games panel this weekend at PAX East in Boston, featuring president Mike Capps and creative lead Cliff Bleszinski, both admitted they were working on a PC-only title. Capps told Joystiq after the panel that the game was already in development and it would stay exclusive to the PC.
Keep in mind that these days, PC-only could mean a casual game or a social game, but given the track record of Epic as a hard-core shooter developer, we can only hope that the project would be another game in the Unreal series.

While people find this rational talk amusing, ask nintendo about the exclusivity ... and this is why the whole PC and console market is so diluted imo. Stuff that supposed to be on pcs made into half assed console games you see on the PS360 generation, then some console games also expanded to poor PC ports , then the half broken console-PC games got ported badly back to PC and you end up whats in front of us , though there are rare exceptions, today most gamers are the general public that accepts such standards, mostly americans, sad part of it is they dont notice and act like a pact of sheep against anyone questioning their standard expected way of discussion and reasoning, so i got my own views, obviously from a different place on this planet and tons of other factors such as age and experience, i have been playing hardcore games almost exclusively since the dawn ages of sega , SNES, keen, dangerous dave, wolfenstein, dn3d , dune 2000, command & conquer and all after that .. i wasnt for shooters much until call of duty , had private servers (actual dedicated PC) and custom private mods ... but the core of my mind was always on hardcore, playing crap and too easy games is like torture for me .. i cannot conume the quantities of litter that the industry today makes so i have to choose very visely, i sometimes offer smaller scoped and starting games who i sense great potential such as End Of Nations and Ruse from Eugen which was a fail since Ubisoft is Ubisoft, Eugen changed the publisher and made Wargame European Escalation which i havent had a chance to look on yet, now that their partnership is over, ... privately spoke with eugens ceo over email telling him how i support his independent company and pretty much loaded some big essay email explnanations as to how bad DRM and ubisoft is and they should change the publisher after Ruse ... i also explained about how important is the post development polishing of the game and all those tricks to get people love your game .. replied a few times and got some early unreleased info i probably shouldt have known ... Eugen treats fans really well as on the ubi forum there were always eugen devs posting, but theyre not big so they cant go make all this games and their own brand up, i don-t think they have site forums at all, though i didnt check for a while. But obviously i wasn-t a douche, so i didnt leak the info i got to knew.
My mind is simply incompatible with crap games since i never played them seriously at all, in whatever can easily force me to developer-mode and i start noticing more and more bugs, inconsistencies, annoyances, didnt took long to make me force choose my games carefuly, being sick and tired of trying to fix something or to tell a developer some basic thing the industry got over 5 years ago ... come on, get up to the standard and have he old school approach and then we can talk ... the only game i bought in 2010 was Starcraft 2, the games i bought in 2011 was Rage, BF3 and Zelda Skyward Sword, we all know what happend with Rage, great potential but not there ... on the PC side, mod tools which are still coming, which was 60% of the reason i bought it, and the BF3 hypetrain ... not bad idea , but the game is the biggest bugfest ever, played for 3 weeks straigt never touched again cause it pisses me off with the stupid borken geometry/art collision crap in jets ... one of 9000 bugs, ill wait a year they fix a shitload of the bugs and broken mehanics as they're swimming in it. The one game im buying this year is Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm ... not sure about anything else yet.

As a shooter fan, I've had it with shooters aping Call of Duty instead of going for its own style, developing a gameplay mechanic that works, or even getting mouse sensitivity halfway correct with minimal movement lag. I'm basically replaying the Dooms and Quakes now, along with Portal 2, Rage, Serious Sam 3, and other classics.
Also, way too many FPS games with quick-time events. Don't use "press X", make me shoot something!

Epic stopped having a history of being a developer of hardcore shooters after GoW3 released. There's nothing hardcore about a game which has starting weapons that essentially aim themselves. GoW3 has become one big joke to 90% of the hardcore playerbase that has been playing GoW since 06. The other 10% think being awesome in a game that so few plays means they have raw talent. They brag about going to an event where competitors had to bring their own Xbox. Their youtube videos get below 1k views. They brag about winning Locals or placing in hype. This game isn't on the MLG circuit and shows no signs of being on the MLG circuit. Epics idea of supporting MLG was adding a spectator mode to private matches. This game is a joke, and saying it's hardcore is an even bigger joke. Epic doesn't care about hardcore gamers anymore, they showed that when they released GoW3.

The Fortnite teaser didn't have huge dudes in football shoulder pads, so there's hope.
The "bro" art style got started with the Unreal Warfare tech demo way back in GDC 2001; that eventually evolved into Gears, but the art style carried over into UT2003, with the "geneboosted" gladiators with the huge armor suits. Epic went 10 years with that art style; I think it's time for a change.

I'm not getting my hopes up
this sounds almost the same as when John Carmack was talking about Rage the PC version
and how awesome it was going to be.
ended up it not really working for most people upon release
and even well after people still had driver problems.
I'm not sure that most these old company's like ID and Epic know how to make PC exclusive games
anymore.
