Civilization V: Gods & Kings coming June 19

The expansion that brings religion and espionage back to Civilization now has a release date.

When Civilization V dropped religion and espionage from the basic game, hardcore enthusiasts were upset that Firaxis had messed with one of the more successful aspects from the previous game. The new Gods & Kings expansion plans to remedy that on June 19.

2K Games has finally announced the expansion's release date for North America. The European release will come three days later. In addition to the returning game mechanics, there will be nine new civilizations--each with a new leader--and three new scenarios and nine new wonders.

I loved Civilization IV, but wasn't as fond of V. With religion and espionage making a comeback, it may be time to fire it up again.

I've been enjoying Civ 5 quite a bit, but then again I never played any of the previous iterations to know how much I'm missing out on. My biggest complaint is that, at least for me, on Prince difficulty it's too hard for me to be successful, and on the setting just below Prince it's too easy.

I love how the removal of religion was touted as a big feature that would make the diplomacy deeper, but now it comes back as a feature. What happened to mah deep diplomacy?

In theory it should've because then you wouldn't have the case like in Civ 4 where person x would hate you regardless of what you did, just because you had a certain religion and you could actually be diplomatic with them. Problem being that in 5 they severely neutered diplomacy and then paired it with a schizophrenic AI who would declare war "just coz".

Diplomacy in Civ V is by far a huge step backwards. I've grown to love Civ V's social policy system and combat, but there is no other way to slice it - diplomacy sucks.

It was announced that animation is coming in a future patch that will work with both the expansion and core game. It will allow players to enable movement animation and/or combat animation separately.
