Mass Effect 3 ships 3.5M copies
Less than a week since Mass Effect 3 was released for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, publisher Electronic Arts is touting 3.5 million units shipped.
Mass Effect 3 has only been available at retail since this past Tuesday, but that's enough time for publisher Electronic Arts to have shipped three and a half million units of the game. The final chapter of Commander Shepard's galaxy-saving, sci-fi opus has been incredibly well received by critics. Shacknews' Garnett Lee called the experience one that would be "equally at home on the pages of a New York Times bestseller or a blockbuster Hollywood production," in his recent review.
"We have been truly humbled by the amazing response from fans and critics for Mass Effect 3," said BioWare co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka. "The game is a gripping, engaging experience where the decisions and choices you make will truly stay with you for the months and years ahead. We are all incredibly proud of Casey Hudson and the teams in Edmonton and Montreal for delivering the best game BioWare has ever made."
Based on our feelings about the title around the Shacknews office, that last sentence seems a lot closer to fact than hyperbole.

Everyone has their own preference.
Mine: ME3>ME2>ME1
And trust me... I played ME1 5 1/2 separate playthroughs to get my 100% gamerscore (+DLC)
I got extremely sick of the inventory system (I can only medigel Tungsten X rounds so many times before I go crazy)
I prefer the over the shoulder 3rd person compared to the... distant 3rd person camera. And I prefer the Gears-like playstyle.-
This wasn't so much about gameplay than the story itself. I much prefer ME3's gameplay over that of ME1, but ME3 has nowhere near the plot quality of ME1. There was a lot about ME1 I didn't like, but to say ME3 is the best of any game in the BioWare library, including the likes of Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 or KOTOR, is a bit of stretch to say the least.
I've played ME1 and 2 more times than I can count, with 100% achievements on both, too. -

Undoubtedly, ME3 suffers the same problem as ME1 to ME2 transition of decisions not mattering but well... It's not unexpected. They allowed too many variables and had to create an ending that would be achievable for all players.
There's no way they could have dozens of different personalized endings. Most games that have truly personalized endings have them in PowerPoint format where it's a slide show with voice overs only - no cinematics end for your Fallouts, Arcanums, etc. That kind of goes against the grain of Mass Effect.
I'm guessing most people with some amount of imagination will be able to cope without being explicitly told what happens because of all your choices. In the end, you just have to believe the journey matters more than the destination.

The "best" is such a subjective measure, but I thought every entry to the ME series had their merits. They were certainly all worthwhile to play, at least in my opinion.
- ME1 had the best story, I agree.
- Every game built on the lore well.
- ME2 had the best cast of characters and made combat fun.
- ME3 had the best gameplay, pacing, and side quest content that felt relevant to the main story arc.

I just beat this game yesterday and it seemed to be shorter then Mass Effect 2 which was kind of disappointing.
Whats funny is that during the last mission the two characters I brought with me died (part of the plot) and after all of the scenes and the Normandy crashed it goes back to normal. I went to one of the characters that died and they acted like nothing happened. -
Didn't buy it. The price and the DLC turned me off, its not that I can't afford it, I would have no issues handing over the money if it were for devs I actually respected. I spent more that that last night on beers watching the hockey game, and that entertainment lasted 4 hours. The fear of DA2 repeating as well as the shitty demo, and Christ Priestley being a douchbag as usual that really finalized the no buy. I already have origin for BF3 and Crysis 2 and it is such an archaic system, I don't like using it.
Don't know if I ever will. ME2 was fun, but I could never get the energy or motivation to play it again. I really don't care about the story anymore. IF I pick it up, it will be for $15. -
Just finished the game. Loved it. Might be one of the greatest scifi stories ever told. I don't think I'd have enjoyed any where near as much without the DLC. I found the prothean character to be an excellent addition and added a lot to the experience. The ending....oh man the ending. Its so classic scifi that it hurts. I'm talking Zahadoom levels of awesome. It is bleak to be sure, but the best scifi are the kind that are in it for the long hall.
