The much-anticipated HBO Go app will be coming to Xbox 360 by April 1. HBO fans might recognize that as the start date of Game of Thrones' second season, so you'll be able to dive back into the critically acclaimed series using the new functionality.

HBO co-president Eric Kessler gave the word at a San Francisco HBO event, reports Engadget. HBO Go was promised for early 2012, and has been one of the most requested of the TV apps for Xbox Live. To use the service, though, you'll need a compatible cable subscription, an HBO subscription, and an Xbox Live Gold account. The app makes it convenient to watch HBO programming on your schedule, but it's not a ticket to catch HBO shows without paying for cable.

Other TV apps expected for Xbox Live include Xfinity On Demand, which will also require an existing cable subscription.

Will it work with any cable provider? I found out that comcast/xfinity doesn't allow the Roku box to be used for hbogo streaming for some retarded reason.

No, it works like HBO GO on any other platform. Your cable provider will need to have a deal in place.

Will be great for people who don't want to use the menu button on their tv remotes.

Yup. With a some exceptions, it's basically every episode of every series they've done.

Boardwalk Empires is not on demand, but it IS on HBO Go. it's weird. but their Go library is MUCH bigger than their on demand.

Every episode of The Sopranos, The Wire, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Six Feet Under, Curb Your Enthusiasm, True Blood, and a ton more. The only series I can think of not on there in their entirety are Tales From The Crypt (but Demon Knight is) and Dream On.

ugh, hbo should offer their service outside of required cable packages.

The only real reason I can see for them not doing this yet is that they are probably locked into long-term deals with the evil cable providers that prevent them from offering HBO as a standalone service.

So I need to sign up for $100+/month in services to get HBO Go? Way to be non-disruptive HBO.

Let me stream any HBO content in H.264 from your site to any device for $20/month and we'll talk.

yeah, this is what i was thinking too. they're probably testing the waters to see how it works, maybe in the future they'll revise contracts.

i think it would be more like $10, much like Netflix streaming. it's probably a lot cheaper for them to store & serve content than it is to pay the rights to get it on demand with all the cable companies.

As I'm sure many have done with Netflix, find a friend that already subscribes to HBO and ask to use their HBO Go service. All you need is an email and password. They can even setup a separate email address for you to use, that way you are not using their primary account info.

single log in at a time? maybe only up to 5 devices can use a single account? just thinking out loud.

I have logged into my HBO Go with two laptops in different locations at the same time and it seems to work
I share my Netflix account with a couple people and it works fine. It should be fine for everyone else.

They are not interested in being disrupted. They are interested in pleasing their current customers.

They charge me somewhere in between $15-$25 dollars/mo for just HBO go service, I'd gladly pay so long as I don't need cable TV with that.

But will it be available to all cable providers? HBO GO is currently not available on Time Warner (at least in my area).
