Rovio readies non-Angry Birds game; considers 3rd-party publishing
Angry Birds creator Rovio has a new non-Angry-Birds-themed game coming out in a "couple of months" and discusses its future, which may include 3rd-party publishing.
Rovio's Angry Birds series has made mountains of money, having expanded into animation and merchandising. However, the company is finally readying its next IP, one that won't feature the popular, petulant poultry.
So when can we expect it? CEO Mikael Hed said it is currently in production and "will be out in a couple of months."
Hed also told told AllThingsD that the infrastructure that Rovio has developed for the Angry Birds franchise could easily be leveraged for other intellectual properties, and that includes titles made by other developers. As of now, Rovio is still evaluating its potential role as a third-party publisher.
Besides the mysterious new game due out in a couple of months, a space-themed version of Angry Birds will launch on March 22 for iOS, Android, Mac and PC, alongside related physical merchandise.
