Enslaved multiplayer spin-off planned, canceled
What could have happened if Enslaved had found the audience its creators so wanted? In addition to the requisite DLC plans, there would have been an online multiplayer spin-off game centered around Monkey's skateboard-esque cloud.
Critics rather enjoyed Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. Unfortunately, the masses didn't care for it much, and it quickly found its place in video game bargain bins.
What could have happened if Enslaved had found the audience its creators so wanted? Creative director Tameem Antoniades said that in addition to the requisite DLC plans, there would have been an online multiplayer spin-off game centered around Monkey's skateboard-esque cloud.
The plans for a spin-off game contrast statements Antoniades made before the game's release. "The thinking from the beginning was not to assume there would be a sequel--just to put everything into this game."
Unfortunately, it didn't work out for the team. "We wanted to create affecting characters that felt more like real people than cardboard cutouts," Antoniades lamented to Edge (via CVG). "If the game had been more successful, perhaps other games would follow suit and deem it a worthwhile pursuit."
Ninja Theory is currently working on DmC: Devil May Cry, a controversial reboot of Capcom's beloved brawler series.
