Battleship game is a naval strategy FPS

Activision has announced that it will be making a licensed video game based on the upcoming movie adaptation of the Battleship board game. Interestingly, they've hired Double Helix to helm the project, whose resume includes Front Mission Evolved for Square Enix and GI Joe: Rise of Cobra for EA.
Coming first to PS3 and Xbox 360, Battleship will be a "standalone" story that combines strategic naval command with "first-person action gameplay." Yes, Battleship is turning into a first-person shooter.
According to the press release, Battleship will allow players to "seamlessly" switch between the first-person battlefield and the "Battle Command" overview map. "Combining naval strategy simulation with first-person shooter gameplay, players fend off the enemy beachside while ordering attacks against their marine counterparts," the announcement reads.
If that doesn't sound like an accurate recreation of the board game you played as a kid, it's because the movie looks less like Battleship, and more like Michael Bay's Transformers movies. Here's the Super Bowl trailer:
The Teen-rated Battleship will be available on PS3 and Xbox 360 on May 15th, just a few days before the movie's May 18th release. "Uniquely designed versions" rated E10+ from developer Magic Pockets will also be made for Wii, 3DS, and DS.

And if it were today, 6 months later would be Ultimate Street Fighter: The Game: The Movie: The Game
3 months after that would be Super Ultimate Street Fighter: The Game: The Movie: The Game
1 1/2 months after that would be Super Ultimate Street Fighter: The Game: The Movie: The Game HD
The next day would be DLC that's already on the disk.

How much you want to bet that either
a) The Battleship movie was actually not originally intended to a board game tie-in but that got foisted onto it later on, or
b) The Battleship movie was based off of a script that didn't feature the Navy at all but halfway through development they decided to shimmy that concept in
For example, the Will Smith movie I, Robot was originally based off of a script called Hardwired and late into development they tacked the Asimov elements on and renamed it. If you ignore the name and the implied Asimov connection (and just write off the three laws of robotics as an homage) it's not a bad movie.-
I can easily see that. The alien/robot design are lousy with Bay-style art direction all over them. Considering the work the did with the Transformers franchise, and I use the term "work" with extreme hesitance, I can see how some bean counter on either side thought of the tie-in mid-stream. Guess Hasbro thought if the tie-in could bring in a part of what Transformers did for their toy sales, why not give it a try. Oh, the fools. . .
