The ghosts and ghoulies of the Fatal Frame series will enter our world on Friday, April 13, Nintendo has announced, confirming that Tecmo Koei's 3DS augmented spin-off of the survival horror series will indeed be released in North America. Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir uses the 3DS's camera and augmented reality to put players into the game, and draw its spirits into your home.
A 16-page AR book called the "diary of faces" will be your gateway to the netherworld as you try to help "mysterious girl" Maya, who's cursed and all that jazz, hiding from "a malevolent woman in black." Ooh, those dastardly traffic wardens!
The book's pages will sometimes turn into movies, or have characters emerge from them, with spirits assaulting you "from all directions." Nintendo notes that players can import their own pictures to play some role in the game.
"Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir will give Nintendo 3DS owners an extraordinary new way to enjoy the system's augmented-reality features and 3D capabilities," Nintendo of America executive VP of sales & marketing Scott Moffitt said in the announcement. "Everywhere they go, they'll be able to transform their real-world surroundings into a chilling hand-held adventure."
Spirit Camera launched in Japan last week under the name Shinrei Camera: Tsuiteru Techou.
