Star Wars: The Old Republic hits a million players, logging 28 million hours

Electronic Arts and BioWare have released staggering launch statistics for Star Wars: The Old Republic, and already boast of over 1 million registered players.

Perhaps you've heard of a little MMO called Star Wars: The Old Republic that recently launched. Electronic Arts, BioWare, and LucasArts have released some impressive player-driven statistics for the game, which speak directly to just how quickly folks are taking to the game, and how much they're enjoying the historical sci-fi epic.

According to the press-release, over one million registered players have created 3.8 million characters since launch. Saber-wielding tanks seem to be the favorite (I mean, who doesn't want to swing a lightsaber?) with 510,000 Jedi Knights and 550,000 Sith Warriors having been rolled.

Twenty-eight million game hours have been logged by players so far, with the average play time clocking in at more than 5 hours per session. We're not entirely sure if this figure includes times spent waiting in server queues, but it's a pretty impressive stat, nonetheless.

The most humorous stat relates to the game's poor NPCs, who seemingly can't catch a break. Over two billion computer-controlled denizens have been slaughtered by players since early access to the game began.

"Already over a million players strong after our Dec 20th launch, The Old Republic has become the fastest growing subscription MMO in the history of our industry," said Dr. Ray Muzyka, General Manager of EA's BioWare label and BioWare co-founder.

For more about SWTOR, feel free to give my personal early impressions of the game a read, which have been quite positive, so far.

Fun Fact: They implemented a compulsive "5 Secret Questions" thing as a security check.

Turns out that thing is bugged out of its ass, half of the european forums are being taken apart by rampaging users who cannot access their accounts and have their PAID gametime dripping through their fingers over the holidays and Bioware was nice enough to DISCONNECT THE HELP LINES.

People cannot access their accounts because their questions are not accepted, some even get questions from other users, resetting these does not work, a ton of users cannot even access the forums to besiege it because they are not able to register their account due to queues on the website AND their registration code not being saved.

      FUN TIMES FOR THE HOLIDAYS.

I setup the security question too, but I never get them asked.
I guess because I use my security authenticator that came with the collectors edition.

Strange, I was asked all 5 security questions when I signed up. Had to enter answer to one of the questions when I logged on to the website from a new PC.

I also did not see a custom question option which would have been nice My answer to questions Like "What is your favorite author?" are often subject to change.

They did not disconnect their help lines, that's a flat out lie. They had phone issues on the 22nd, but those should be resolved.

i kind of figured it would have been 2. but either way, great start.

the biggest question will be - how does BioWare handle the mass at 50. Should be interesting.....
