Steam

Steam's holiday sale is big. Really big. Huge. Colossal. There are discounts on publisher catalogues, bundles, and heaps of individual games. Think of a game, then go check and you'll probably find it on sale. The real treat, however, is the daily sales. Every day, a dozen or so games receive mega-discounts, so you might want to avoid buying games not in daily sales for now in case they crop up a lot cheaper later. And, of course, there's a chance to win every game on Steam. Until Saturday, 2pm Pacific:

I am surprised that Amazon has not yet changed their deals. They usually change everything the second after this goes live. Perhaps they know that I now know, and are waiting for me to stop paying attention.

think sonic generations will come up cheaper on steam before the amazon sale goes down? currently like $22 bucks but i wonder if it'll come up on a daily deal

Given how recent Sonic Generations is, a 50% discount if already pretty hefty.

Steam's daily sale prices have been beaten elsewhere before, too, so it wouldn't necessarily be cheaper if Steam did have it on a daily.

I think this Amazon price is only good for today, but they're so vague in scheduling these things.

also is heroes 6 any good? better or worse than HOMM3?

      • reply
        December 23, 2011 6:16 PM

I liked Heroes 6. It's different than Heroes 3 by a lot, so it's hard to compare. One of the best features is zones of control. If the enemy wants a mine, they have to take the castle or fort that is in charge of the area.
Also neat is the ability to train all of your troops for the week form one castle, no more do you need 6 level one heroes to cart your guys around to your main hero.
Last but not least is being able to convert any town or creature dwelling to your starting faction. So you can get a monstrous army, fast.
Those are just off the top of my head. Hope it helps.

Saint's Row: The Third - Steam key - $19.99 (plus possible credit card foreign transaction fee (~3%, varies by card) if buying from the U.S. since it is a U.K.-based merchant) http://www.greenmangaming.com/games/action/saints-row-the-third/ - sale plus code brings the price down to $19.99. Learned about this from Red-Cell's comment at http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/63421/Steam-Holiday-Sales-Day-5-Deals-And-Objectives

Rage for fifteen bucks is an awesome deal for anyone that hasn't picked it up yet. Despite all the negative crap I heard about it, I actually enjoyed the hell out of it. Took my sweet time since I heard it was short and ended up at 19 hours when I did beat it. Got my $30 worth from it and I'll probably play through it again and finish all the races and job board missions next time around.

It's a fun game and other than an occasional blurry texture if you're right up on something, the graphics are exceptional. Feels solid, the weapons are all pretty satisfying, animations are stellar, AI is pretty nice. Damn good game. Especially for fifteen bucks. The bugs at launch really tainted it's reputation unfortunately.

I will say though, the complaints about the lame ending are justified. Very weak.

Another thing, I read a lot of comments from people stating that once you leave wellspring the missions are lame. I disagree. I thought the blue line station level was awesome. The distillery and even jackal canyon were fun.

I have to agree! Bought Rage during the Black Friday sale and played it a bit. Patches and driver revisions probably helped the most, but I found it to be a worthwhile purchase at $30. For $15, I wouldn't think twice about buying it.

Now if I can just break away from Skyrim long enough to play this again...

Renegade Ops on Amazon is a helluva deal! Since it also uses Steam, I went ahead and picked it up for $3. Much to my surprise, all of the DLC is included for free...a savings of $8. Clutch buy!

Also, greenmangaming.com has Saint's Row The Third on sale too. Except entering the voucher code FIFTY-SAINT-XMASS sets the price at $20. It gives you a key to activate on Steam, which I just did. Saw this tasty bit of info in the comments on joystiq article about this.

Holy shit my wallet is crying uncle!

I'm really hating a lot of these sales... all of the AAA games that I want are not available for those insane prices because I reside in Australia. Steam Xmas discounts... 33% off Skyrim today.. still over $60!

Dues Ex HR on Amazon.... not available without a US address it seems... FOR A DOWNLOAD!

      BAH HUMBUG!

      That's better. :)

(hang on, I wonder if i can use my VIADDRESS.. hmm)

SCORE! Dues Ex HR now activated and downloading via Steam!

I used my freight forwarding address located in Indiana USA... I hadn't used it for ages so kinda forgot about it at first...

Booya! There's a tip for any other Australians reading this thread and feeling left out. Go sign up at VIADDRESS (or some other freight forwarding company in the USA) for an American address, and then you can get your downloads for cheap. It does not cost anything to have a VIADDRESS account, unless you actually use them to forward a parcel on to you.

        Merry Christmas!
