Verizon FiOS TV app for Xbox Live launches in December
Verizon's FiOS TV app hits Xbox Live next month allowing Gold members who are also subscribers to stream up to 26 channels depending on the TV package they subscribe to.
Verizon offered new details today on its plans to deliver select television channels to its FiOS subscribers through their Xbox 360. Starting next month, the Verizon FiOS TV app will be available for download on Xbox Live. Initially, 26 channels will be available through it, depending on which TV package you have. All told, to use the system you must be subscribed to FiOS for TV and Internet, and be an Xbox Live Gold member.
To help ease the pain, Verizon is running a special discount for new customers through Jan. 21. Subscribe to their "triple-play" service of TV, 35/35 Mbps Internet, and voice for $89.99 per month and they'll throw in a 12-month Xbox Live Gold membership and a copy of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. Figuring a $60 value for Gold and $40 for Halo, that's a little better than getting a month of service free.
Of course, even for those willing to drop the cash, there's the question of availability. The only way to know for sure if you're covered is to check their service availability form. But, the fine folks over at DSL Reports have pieced together a map showing where its members have been able to get it if you want to get a rough idea.
