Max Payne 3 trailer shows off bullet time tech
Rockstar's getting technical in a new series of trailers, kicking off with a look at its targeting, bullet time, animation, and AI. You needn't even ask: yes, things do get shot and explode in slow-motion.

Max Payne 3's "extremely detailed" animation system blends thousands of animations, the trailer explains, and uses the Euphoria tech (as seen in Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption) to make things fall over nicely. Make Max twist and follow the crosshair with his movements, and you have a man who looks great shooting other men. Slightly less great when he's bald, mind.
Our Andrew was somewhat disappointed by how Max Payne 3 actually looked in our last preview, but he did note that--of course--the game's not finished yet.
Max Payne 3 will dive through a window onto PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in March 2012.

I still don't think it really feels like a Max Payne game, I'm much more reminded of Kane & Lynch, but there was a review on RPS about a dude playing a full 10min sequence, and using proper tactics and stuff, so it sounded like really deep combat - and I was excited!
An SP shooter that is focused on good combat is hard to find these days...

I was expecting to be bored by this game but it looks amazing. They've really done some great work. But I wonder if the slo-mo shootouts will get boring after a while like they did for me in the other Max Payne games. Hopefully not, given the improvements in animations etc. Also I wonder whether the PC version will definitely release at the same time as the other versions (and whether the controls will be any good)?

Wow, that is really, really impressive. The animation looks absolutely gorgeous, and it seems like they did a good job of updating the bullet-time mechanic to make it still seem "fresh". Definitely gonna be picking this one up! Also, Rockstar once again proves that they make the best damned trailers in the industry. I love how they actually go over and examine the different elements of the gameplay, story, etc., in the trailers for their recent games.

A single player game based primarily around shooting bad guys doesn't interest me (looking at you RAGE) but this is more than RAGE's wingstick/shotguns/bum rushing enemies/first person mechanic. This looks really cool even if you are just watching someone else play it. I don't like bald, fat Max and I didn't think Max Payne 3 would be a surefire purchase but now it is a definite buy. Depending on where I am with Skyrim and New Vegas, MP3 may even be a day one buy. I like what I see in this video.

Maybe it's finally owning glasses or something but fuck that video is low res compressed shit.
Here's a copy which doesn't look awful.
