Total Recall becoming F2P browser MMO
Total Recall is being remade, and SEE Games and ZQGame are collaborating on a free, browser-based MMO to accompany it.
The cult sci-fi classic Total Recall is being remade with a release scheduled for next year. Today SEE Games and ZQGame announced that the remake will be accompanied by a free-to-play, browser-based MMO, so you can get your ass to Mars from the comfort of your couch.
The press release promises it will be a full 3D game with "console-like graphics," and will rely on microtransactions. It shares a lot in common with traditional MMOs, featuring PVP and PVE environments alongside a "memory quest" system.
No release date was mentioned for the title, but the announcement notes that the the movie release is scheduled for August 3, 2012. We can probably expect it sometime around then.
"Total Recall is an international phenomenon; we know this well-known property will make a great 3D browser based game," said Sony Pictures Consumer Products VP Mark Caplan, in the announcement. "With SEE Games and ZQGame's expertise, Total Recall will offer fans of the franchise and gamers alike an engaging and authentic experience - one that will deliver everything that the fans expect and will dovetail perfectly with the upcoming film."
