Dota 2 beta expanding, 'extra copies' included for friends
Valve has revealed more invites for the Dota 2 test will be released soon, as well as extra copies for those invited to bring their friends along for the ride.
It looks like gamers hungry for their shot at Valve's upcoming expansion into the multiplayer online battle arena genre may be satiated soon.
"We've just finished our first significant expansion of Dota 2 server capacity around the world, and that means it's time to kick this thing up a notch," a blog post on the official Dota 2 site revealed yesterday.
How can you get your hands on an invite to Dota 2? "Once you've read today's [comic], make sure you fill out the Dota 2 Survey in Steam to secure your place in the upcoming invitations." The survey, Valve says, allows the company to ensure it invites a "wide spread of players and hardware."
To celebrate its ability to hand out more beta slots to the public, Valve has released "the first part of the official Dota 2 comic, Tales from the Secret Shop."
That's not the only spot of good news: "One thing everyone will tell you is that Dota is a game that's more fun with friends. Because of that, we wanted to make sure everyone we invited could bring a couple of friends." Those given an invite will be offered "extra copies," which users can give to friends using Steam's Trading feature.

I disagree. I'd rather take Valve at their word when they claim they are interested in all levels of experience, and that includes newbies. If DotA is ever going to get out of its niche it will have to attract new players, and everyone was new at some point. (And you may not want it to attract new players, but I can guarantee that Valve does.)

It's true. I think Valve's biggest challenge is keeping people like this from ruining the game for everyone else. No idea how they're going to pull that off.
Maybe they can have some kind of asperger's test before you start playing - if you test positive you're sent to the sperg server with the other aspies.

Personally, I don't think the survey means anything anyway. Like when it asked how many Dota characters you had played. Well, I've played all the current ones, save for 2 since I haven't played for a while, but I've also played many that have been discontinued. So if I answer 120 characters would that really take that into account? Probably not.

I filled it in randomly, because it didn't give me an option to say I've never played. They might still want people who have never played, but by not filling it in I definatly wouldn't get an invite.
Also I play a lot of games, I've played a lot of League of Legends and I intend to spend money on Dota2 be that through buying it or any in-game transactions they'll be using. How am I not a good candidate for beta feedback?
