3DS Slide Pad official details released

Nintendo has announced that the 3DS slide pad attachment will hit Japan on December 10 for 1,500 yen, or roughly $20. The company also released a list of compatible games.

Though it was conspicuously absent from Nintendo's press briefing last night, the company has released official details on its second slide pad dongle. The release includes a Japanese release date and price, and plans for compatible games.

Andriasang reports the attachment will hit Japan on December 10, alongside Monster Hunter 3G. It will be 1,500 yen (roughly $20 US), and requires one AAA battery included with the device.

It will be compatible with more than just Monster Hunter 3G. The current slate of compatible titles also includes Resident Evil Revelations, Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D, Ace Combat 3D Cross Rumble, Dynasty Warriors VS, and Kingdom Hearts 3D. Compatible titles will sport an icon on the box.

Though western pricing and dates haven't been announced, it seems increasingly likely that we'll see the add-on come to our shores eventually. If it were strictly reserved for Monster Hunter, it might stay in Japan -- but with franchises like Resident Evil and Kingdom Hearts compatible as well, it's almost certainly due here too.

What on earth is up with that picture? It looks really poorly photochopped, and if this wasn't news about an official confirmation, would definitely look like a fake.

This thing is hideous. I'll wait for the 3DS Lite that integrates the right stick, like they should have done to begin with.

That thing could not be uglier. Was really weird that they didn't talk about it at all at the presser last night. Was really hoping for a new hardware announcement. :( I'll still be waiting for that as it's inevitable that they come out with one with the extra stick.

man what a mess. They would have to knock that down to $10 for any hope of wide spread adoption here in the states. why didn't they just make the touch screen the second slider, ala Metroid Hunters and be done with it.

while true, they should have realized that well before launching the 3ds. So glad they got knocked down a few pegs..hopefully this whole experience will humble them in the long run and they'll get back to making great games and hardware, instead of overpriced systems that no one asked for.

It was okay with a thumb stylus (one that wraps around your thumb), but I agree it's far from ideal.

Nothing other than doom and gloom for the company if it doesn't do so, but only rumors so far.

      HIJACK:

Who all now considers Nintendo up there w/ George Lucas in destroying youthful goodwill?

I fucking hate that I bought a 3DS now. No, I don't hate, but I'm so disappointed and disillusioned by it now. The Wii U is a fucking joke. Every game idea could be done nearly the same w/ a Wii and DS or 3DS. Making the 3DS the controller in the first place might have even been intelligent. Now we're just supporting an indulgent organization who chases after balance boards and wacky gimmicks. Buy another mario or zelda game, fund another balance board or memory training game.

      Lame.

I see them now as a different company when the Wii was first released. When the DS and Wii were released, they were really taking huge risks, as in at the time no one had thought about putting out a duel screen/touch screen system, no one would put all their eggs in a funny named motion based console. They let the money get to their head and instead of innovating further, they kept trying to cash in the cash cow, with really awful peripherials like the balance board that were going to be hot for a season and then collect dust. Now they are completely blinded by the assloads of cash to where they let the market pass them by, both with handhelds and hard core console game players. Porting 360 and ps3 games to the WII U isn't going to win people back. Asking $250 for a handheld and $40 for games when the market was already moving towards iphones and other handheld devices is another example of their ego needing a good reboot.

If the WiiU is comparable to the 360/PS3 then they're only helping MSFT and Sony prolong the lives of their consoles and overlap into their next gen systems.

I'm tired of their crap too. I tired of their focus on gimmicky bullshit, and those gimmicks shitting on otherwise good games. Mario Galaxy 'tilt the wii controller up to balance on a ball' mechanics, I'm looking at you. Donkey Kong Country 'waggle to do a roll instead of just pushing Down + 1', I'm looking at you.

I'm so fed up with games which once had awesome controls, being inundated with the waggle bullshit.

While I've never had an issue with 1st party games waggle controls, I do agree it's completely unnecessary for the game (though I actually rather enjoyed the ball bit in Galaxy).

I kind of agree with you.

Making the Wii U a HD Wii that could use a (or several) DS / 3DS as controllers and stream video to them would have been awesome and built upon their current install base of DS owners. It would just have required developing a 'download and play' app that the Wii U could serve out to DSs, and then you could have lots of cool interactions like football and baseball games where you can choose plays / pitches without the other players seeing.

Other than Blizzard, they still make my favorite games. They've made some slip-ups, but so long as they learn to buck their history of ignoring everyone else and only doing their own thing, they'll get back on track.

I've always admired Nintendo for going against the grain, but they need to realize they're no longer the dominant company in the handheld market. I think the remedy will come by way of a new iteration of 3DS hardware (which would have come regardless of how well or poorly the machine fared), hopefully at the same price or lower.
