Rage PC system requirements revealed
The minimum and recommended system requirements for id Software's upcoming title Rage have been revealed.
Rage, the latest title from famed developer id Software, is set to launch on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on October 4. Chances are, if you're a hardcore Shacker, you're thinking about getting the game for the PC.
The minimum and recommended system requirements for the game were revealed earlier today, reminding us of two things we almost forgot about: our PCs need more RAM and Windows Vista is still a thing.
- Minimum:
- OS: Win XP SP3, Vista, Win 7
- Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo or Equivalent AMD
- Memory: 2GB
- Hard Disk Space: 25GB
- Video Card: GeForce 8800, Radeon HD 4200
- Recommended:
- OS: Win XP SP3, Vista, Win 7
- Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad or Equivalent AMD
- Memory: 4GB
- Hard Disk Space: 25GB
- Video Card: GeForce 9800 GTX, ATI Radeon HD 5550
The announcement was made earlier today on the Bethesda Blog. The blog also reminds gamers that on the PC, Rage will use Steamworks to support Achievements, VOIP, and friends lists on the PC, meaning it will require Steam to be installed on your PC.

This is screaming "I'm a bad console port". Not what I was expecting from this dev, I was expecting something to actually challenge my system. Fuck, I have an old wasting away box in my garaged that is 8 years old covered in dust that meets the recommended specs. This is why consoles are ruining the PC market. Yesterday's tech at today's inflation! woohoo!!

If the recommended specs are correct, it seems that ATi cards will perform a slight beat better than the Nvidia counterpart. However, an Nvidia 8800 paired with an ATi 4200.... 8800 is decent but the 4200 (or even 4300's) are purely for multimedia.
Personally, I run an ATi 4870 along with an Nvidia 9800GT for Hybrid PhysX and they run most games in conjunction with a Phenom II X6.
If your money is tight, I'd say just crossfire the 4850.

The processor is a generation old from 2008, but I'm not worried about the CPU or the RAM (which I misreported - I actually have 12GB), but when I built my system I bought a cheap video card instead of buying top of the line, and its definitely starting to show its age. I always thought I would upgrade it mid-life of the system which is about now.
I don't know.
