Details on the 4.3 patch for World of Warcraft have found their way online, with a close examination of the game's upcoming "Transmogrification" technology, brought forth by the Ethereals, that allow for cosmetic customization of certain items outfitting warriors of the Alliance or Horde as well as a number of other additions.

Speaking with German fan site World of War.de, Blizzard developer Tom Chilton revealed that the update will include three new five-man instances and noted that it will finally be the update that pits players against the Deathwing the Destroyer.

As for Transmogrification, a recent blog post on the official World of Warcraft site detailed how the weapon and armor customization will work:

Visiting a Transmogrifier will present players with a new interface that will allow them to change the appearance of an item while retaining its original stats. This means that you can raid in your paladin tier 12 Immolation set, but look like you’re wearing Lightbringer, while priests can bring Benediction back--at least in spirit.

According to Chilton, Legendary items are off-limits, as they will ruin the item's "mystique."

Blizzard has stated that it is working to get the update out before the end of this year.

Holy shit, they're finally doing the one thing they said they'd never do and road it right into the ground. I ended up having two sets of gear in my packs at all times because of this, even if the artists wanted to stroke their epeens and show everyone how awesome their new artwork is (which got progressively worse each tier). And for the sake of being complete, I had a level 60 pvp set I wore around all the time and the garbage set in my bags for actual combat.

Too bad it's too little too late, they have do about a couple dozen things like this to stop the gushing outflow of players from their game. It's like a rupture on a main artery and slapping a baindaid on it isn't going to stop it this time.

"Holy shit, they're finally doing the one thing they said they'd never do..."

They have never said they would never allow user customization of items. Their statements regarding item customization have usually amounted to "not now, maybe in the future" which is Blizzard speak for "we understand your feedback and are iterating on implementations of that feature; we'll get back to you." This patch is also addressing another long-term user request: vanity item bag space.

"Too bad it's too little too late, they have do about a couple dozen things like this to stop the gushing outflow of players from their game..."

The only obvious thing here is your need to justify and validate your choice to stop playing the game. However much you might enjoy wallowing in schadenfreude at a 7.5% drop in WoW's user base, there are still quite a few joining and continuing to play the game. This patch seems to be geared to satisfy nearly all of those players.

Maybe I'm wrong though being a jaded ex-WoW player myself :P

i know I love all these people who are like 'ROFL WOW LOST 900k PPL, WOW IS DED GG bLIZZARd' .

Its been 6 years and the game still has 10 million subs. They could lose 5 to 7 million players over the next year or two and it would *still* be a massive cash cow for them and dwarf any other mmo out there.

Whenever this thing is starting its nose dive, Titan will be up and running, reeking in the cash, I'm sure.

cash cow? yes. dwarf any other mmo? not if they lost 7 million. let's not exaggerate.

            http://users.telenet.be/mmodata/Charts/Subs-1.png

if you took 7 million subscribers off of the WoW line, WoW would be neck-and-neck with Aion.

that's irrelevent, because even if they don't play, they pay. (which is stupid)

i mean, they're still subscribed, and thus a revenue for blizzard. that they play or not is irrelevent.

A loss of 7.5% is still a huge loss and outlooks are bleaker with TOR setting to launch which is a basically a well done WoW clone with a Star Wars IP. It's hard to argue that it's in decline regardless of its position in the market.

betting on mmo horses is dumb until 3 months after release considering most of them tank. not saying it's gonna suck but saying it's looking bleak for wow is slightly jumping the gun.

Oh no doubt about it. But it's somewhat difficult to deny ToR may directly appeal to the WoW base because of the similarity of the gameplay. That's not to say that MMOs have a massive scope of gameplay experience but it is to say that if something like Rift pulled off somewhere around 500k subscribers, ToR will probably pull off that in the least.

All I'm saying is that WoW is trending downward in suscribership and that ToR might be an additional hit.

Love how people take what other people say to extremes to try and make their point seem frivolous. I agree.

Blizzard isn't going to go from cash packed company to putting its employees on the street in a year. A LOT would have to go wrong for that to happen. This is the beginning of the end. It hasn't just started, it's a trend that has been happening for a long time. Catacylsm was just the beginning of the end (funny how that happens).

It can be seen outside of the subscribers lost. Just how they treat their players, how they treat the game, how players in the game treat each other, the content that comes out that is barely bug tested, the lack of innovation, the lack of change, the overall lack of love for their cash cow. All they're doing is playing damage control as they bleed customers because they know WoW is a dried up husk and they know Titan will bring everyone back.

However, I doubt that to be the case. A simple look at how SC2 wasn't new or innovative, just a reskinned SC says everything.

I think if you noticed when people are giving you lip service rather then actually taking what you say into account you might have a more objective opinion on what they're saying. Basically they BS'd people because it's something they didn't want to do because their artists wanted to fap to their work.

Why of all times do you think they're now adding something that has been suggested for the last four years? You think it's that hard to simply replace one model with another on a character? It's a coding and engineering nightmare that has never been done before? They've had doodads and trinkets in game that have done this for years.

I'm not validating my choice, simply stating what is happening. If you want more proof, look at the community. Open your fucking eyes and get rid of the fanboism. I don't know why I would hold anything against Blizzard outside of the aforementioned arguments. Blizzard didn't kick me out of the cool kids club, I left. Hell, MMO-champ ran a pull and 40% of the people who visit the site didn't even have a subscription anymore. That's a massive number for a site that is dedicated solely to WoW.

After so many years of playing on and off, mostly on, I think I'm finally done with the game for good. Never say never, but at the moment I have absolutely no desire or intention to return to the game even when the new exp pack comes out. Partly it's about the stupendous amount of hours I've put into it, and partly it's about the game having transformed into this endless instance grind where all you have to do is stand around in a city and get teleported to the dungeons you choose and back. PvP is meaningless (I get my PvP fix from Eve for now) and raiding is time taking and now feels repetitive to me. It's a super game, a game I've put more hours into that any other game else, ever, but finally I think I've had it.

      ... or have I.

I actually really like the T11 helm + shoulders for Druids.

Especially in an area like BWD, where you've got the glowing blue feathers against the red hue from the environment.

Seems like there's usually 1-2 good models out of each tier, though, and the rest are shit. T1, T2, T4 are all good.

It will also reveal that every event prior to WoW (WC1, 2, and 3 with expansions) were Malfurion's hallucinations while trapped in the Emerald Dream. The IP will be reformed into "WoW", with the original line sold to a Japanese publisher, which they will use to make an an anime-themed MMORTS in which Lothar, Uther and Thrall have disproportionately big eyes and speak in squeeky voices.

      Interesting.

However, to obtain my interest, they would first have to overhaul the absolute shit-tier graphics and the character customization that is better referred to as "choose your overly generic doll from this overly generic list".

Of course, this will never happen. OH, and they would also have to make the combat not typical MMO boringness, also guaranteed to never happen within the game's lifetime.

I wonder if Project Titan will fix these faults, or if it will simply be more of the same (knowing Blizzard, it's safe to bet).
