OnLive streaming into UK in September
The cloud gaming service will launch in the UK on September 22, letting Her Majesty's subjects buy, rent and demo PC games rendered remotely and streamed live over t'Internet.
Cloud gaming service OnLive will officially launch in the United Kingdom on September 22, it's been announced. Her Majesty's subjects will get the full works: buying, renting, and demoing PC games streamed live over t'Internet to a PC, Mac, iPad, Android tablet, or special OnLive set-top box.
OnLive's UK service will be joined with the North American servers, allowing intercontinental spectating and voice chat, and multiplayer "for games suited for long-distance multiplayer." There's talk of "priority access" if you sign up on the UK site, so you might want to do that.
The PlayPack bundle, which offers a selection of 70-odd games for a flat monthly rate, will also come to the UK. There's no word yet on how much PlayPack bundle will cost over here, but it costs $9.99 per month in the USA.
The service will officially launch at the opening of the 2011 Eurogamer Expo in London, where OnLive says it'll be showing off upcoming games and new tech. It'll also be giving out "thousands" of MicroConsoles at the show, though don't be upset if you miss out, as OnLive often hands these out like sweeties through various promotions.
After the UK launch, OnLive says, it'll "will steadily expand to other European countries as well as to other continents."
