I agree when Xav on this one, for the most part.
Speaking only of the PC version, the latest patch has improved the experience a ton. You can adjust the FOV, turn off motion blur, and a few other things that don't matter as much, as well as fixing a performance issue (that I did not have).
Initially I was let down that they removed the armor / medkit system for regenning health, and while I still would prefer non-regenning health, it does work rather well in game, especially with, as Xav points out, the sheer number of enemies in some encounters.
The two weapon limit is kind of a whatever to me in this game. In the first two I pretty much only used two weapons and then had the "super" weapons on standby (hell, when I beat FEAR2 I had full ammo for two super weapons because I never actually used them).
I did find some parts of the third very creepy. One part in particular somewhat early: Running through abandoned houses with occult style decorations really got me. Just hearing random footsteps on occasion was freaking me out, and then when I finally got comfortable ... a zombie would be in my face. Also it seemed to be really good at waiting until I was admiring the area or reading something on the wall to have shit pop out. Frankly, while it doesn't rival the original in scare factor I found it to be considerably better than the 2nd in that regard. -
