The Binding of Isaac coming to Steam in August
The "roguelike shooter" from one half of Super Meat Boy developer Team Meat is due to launch on Steam in August.
While Super Meat Boy developer Team Meat works away on its mysterious next project, one half of the dynamic indie duo has revealed more of his own new side-project. The Binding of Isaac will be released on PC via Steam in August, Edmund McMillen has announced.
The Binding of Isaac is "a roguelike shooter based on the dungeon structure of Zelda (NES)," McMillen explains. "At its core is controls like Smash TV/Robotron in a randomly generated semi RPG world filled with powerups items and special abilities."
With no RPG levelling system, you'll be powering up purely with passive upgrades and items. "90% of items in the game stack, so as you progress your character will change into a monstrous powerhouse not only in stats and abilities but also in appearance," said McMillen. As you'd expect from a rougelike with Zelda influences, items will also be used to solve "micro puzzles."
It's being made with Florian Himsl, who McMillen previously worked with on Tri-achinid and Coil. Super Meat Boy music man Danny B is providing the soundtrack.
The price hasn't been revealed yet, but Edmund assures, "it definitely wont put much of a strain on your wallets."
