June NPD: L.A. Noire, Duke Nukem and Infamous 2 top the list; Xbox sells over 500K units
The NPD Group has released its monthly report, outlining the top ten selling games for the month of June 2011. L.A. Noire retained its hold on the list, with Duke Nukem Forever coming in at second spot, and Infamous 2 in third.
Despite analyst firm Wedbush Morgan halving initial sales estimates for Duke Nukem Forever earlier this month, Take Two's returning hero made it to number two on the NPD Group's monthly "Top Ten" chart of best-selling, physical retail titles. The Team Bondi-developed cop action-drama L.A. Noire retained its number one spot for a second month.
Infamous 2 had a strong showing, coming in at third despite launching during E3 2011--a time where most hardcore gamer attention is focused everywhere but the release calendar. Also receiving plenty of attention was The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D at number five on the top ten list, making it the first 3DS to appear on the chart.
Total game sales slumped to $1.03 billion versus $1.15 billion during the same period last year. Microsoft was quick to declare its console the industry's big winner, topping console sales by moving 507,000 units during the month, which Microsoft claims is "nearly twice as many units as other current-generation platforms" during the recorded period.
- Top 10 best-selling, physical retail games (US) 5/29/11 through 7/2/11
- L.A. Noire (360, PS3)

- Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game (Wii, 360, NDS, PS3, 3DS, PSP, PC)
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS)

Note: The NPD Group no longer lists software as individual platforms. Sales for all platforms will now be combined when listed in the "Top Ten" and no figures will be released to the public from the NPD Group. Listing counts new physical retail sales only.

I think just the fact they made ANY money on the game is something... I don't think they ever expected to make a ton of money out of this one... I think their plans are mostly for the future. They just wanted to get this finished and out the door. I bet the we'll see another Duke game in a couple years and it will probably be a HELL of a lot tighter than this one. (And I'm one of the few people who actually really enjoyed the game... or at least parts of it).

You're the idiot.
As per Evil Benius a couple posts down, DNF sold 376k in June. Those are atrociously bad numbers for any game. Even factoring in Steam, DNF is still an unmitigated disaster.
The only way to spin these numbers is by doing shenanigans like saying DNF was the #2 seller in June while leaving out all the caveats that come with that (slow month, behind a game that came out two months ago). I'd be shocked if DNF shows up in the top 10 list for July.
