NHL 12 'sizzle' reel showcases new physicality
A new trailer for NHL 12 from EA Sports features a look at some of the new physical play added to the game, including knocking players over the boards.
There's a legal document that accompanied my Canadian birth certificate that plainly states in no uncertain terms that, if I were to one day write about video game for a living, I would be legally required to write about any NHL-based game franchise.
Since I am a law-abiding citizen--both back home in Canada and now here in Los Angeles--I offer you a new sizzle trailer for NHL 12, from developer EA Canada.
Joking aside, the trailer features a few enhancements coming to the series, including NHL 12's new "full contact physics" engine. NHL 12 launches on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 13.

I'm still waiting for them to improve the archaic interface in these games. Has it changed in 15 years? Be A GM mode is painful, lacking even page up/down buttons to scroll lists of hundreds of players.
The trade interface is even worse, forcing you to scroll through multiple different blackberries to process trade requests. My GM has 5 blackberries. That just doesn't make any sense at all. It's really fucking stupid. You also can't re-tool trades if the other team rejects the proposal. You must start again from scratch, selecting the players and draft picks, scrolling to the CPU team, do it all over again endlessly until a team finally accepts. What a joy.
The amount of wasted space in all of the the menus is ridiculous. They opt to fill half the screen with a team logo instead of useful information, and there is no consistency to the interface. On some screens pushing X sorts lists, on others you have to push the left thumb-stick down.
Nice to see them re-implementing old features they stripped out though, like glass-breaking and over-the-boards checks, and calling them new. As well as superficial crap like the winter classic. This should be DLC. Too bad it's the only game in town and I'm a sucker. EB might give me a dollar fifty for my copy of NHL 11.
I am part of the problem. -

Shattering the glass is fucking stupid. Can't say I have seen any games in the last few years where glass has completely shattered like that. And the ones where I have, they are definitely rare. Watch this happen once out of every 10 hits, just like the over abundant amount of stick dropping / breaking from last year. I'm all for physics improvements, but they need to tone this shit down if they want it to be realistic.
