In a new "behind the scenes" trailer for the upcoming shooter Rage dubbed "The Dawn," team members from id Software detail the story of the game's wasteland setting.

Rage takes place 100 years after a meteor ravages earth in 2036, following an unnamed protagonist that must venture out into the world after being awoken from one of the planet's many survival programs. As the sole survivor of his or her particular "Ark," the player faces a world covered in mutants and violence alone.

Rage is coming to the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 on October 4.

With all the time it took to make this game why wouldn't they make it so you choose how the game is played out. "You wake from an ark to discover your the only one who survived" oh big surprise there.

Why can't there be a game where your not super man? Or a game where your not always the leader, why not let the player choose if they want to lead or not. If they really want to have a unique game, they should make the player start off as an average person. They talk about how different the game is only through the action scenes everything else is basically the same as every other FPS.

Name me 3 FPSes where you can repeatedly go back to different towns you've visited and get more missions. (I'll throw you Farcry 2, but that was a horrific game). Or ones with really engaging storylines (e.g. Half Life series).

Most FPS put you in one area, you kill a bunch of guys, get to some kind of dropoff vehicle or new landmark, watch a bland cutscene and start a new level.

Just because they didn't adopt the one idea you mention within your whole post "You're not a leader" doesn't make it unoriginal. As well, look at ANY WWII SHOOTER. There's a shit tonne of them. In every single one, you're just *a* soldier, no high ranking officer. Obviously you're the one who does everything, otherwise it'd be a boring game, but you've just basically named MOST shooters. Look through your FPS collection, I bet in most of them you are just an average guy who somehow survives really well. Especially in multiplayer.

So any details about a collectors edition for North America? That special one with the boomerang is only for Aussies right?

my biggest complaint being a huge ID Software fan is the multiplayer is not a FPS - every damn review I have read sounds like till be like twisted metal. Why would ID go in this direction? The single player/campaign makes this very misleading.
