Atlus' bizarre puzzle game, Catherine, will be available for everyone to try next week on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. A free demo will be available on July 12th, giving players a chance to experience the surreal nightmare world from the developers of the critically acclaimed Persona series.
While Catherine is largely a puzzle game, it certainly wears its M rating proudly. For proof, look no further than this new trailer, showcasing some of the game's English voice acting, as well as animation from Studio 4°C, best known for their work on Tekkonkinkreet.
Catherine will be available for PS3 and Xbox 360 on July 26. A special "Love is Dead" version includes a pair of boxer shorts.

Unless they changed the title, the special edition is called "Love is Over", named after the death screen in the tower-climbing sections: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXHvARhcQ84#t=9m50s

The main "story mode" part of the game is essentially two sections:
1: A "day" cycle of cinematics (numerous ones animated by STUDIO 4°C, and the rest in the in-game engine which is rather nice), plus the "adventure" part of it (I've never played the Persona games, and I understood about 0.0001% of the dialogue while playing the Japanese version, but I believe it's mostly linear with some divergent dialogue branches, and the good/bad mechanic).
2: The "nightmare" cycle, which is the block-climbing game, plus the inter-stage "confession booth" parts where you have to answer binary-choice questions on relationship loyalty. There's an example of it in the trailer, where Vincent has to choose the left rope or the right rope.
As time goes on, Vincent cycles between "day" and "nightmare".
