Alice O'Connor posted a new article, The video game release list of 6/13-6/19.
Along with Alice: Madness Returns, Child of Eden, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, next week will see the launch of a little-known game named Duke Nukem Forever.-
I was actually going to consider giving Duke Nukem Forever the benefit of the doubt and buy it......until I played the demo (granted, itself over a year old) and then saw the not-so-fantastic reviews coming from over the Atlantic & Pacific. I think it's going to be a bargain bin (or Steam sale) curiosity for me now... :P

Couldn't it be argued that Duke is pretty much a "North American" personality? Huge ass guns, huge ass monster truck and the like? Maybe "Duke culture" (for lack of a better way of putting it) just isn't a European thing? So while the game may be lacking, maybe the attitude makes up for it in North America?
-
Believe it or not, but that kind of culture is actually really popular in Europe for the exact reason that it isn't like their own culture. I see no reason why someone wouldn't enjoy it if it's a good game. I think the reviews so far have been somewhat fair, nostalgia is essentially playing a big role in the game's success, which leaves people split on their opinions. Ultimately I feel like it's probably a good game, but is getting a lot of shit since it took so damn long (and it's age shows a bit).
Personally I will pick it up when I have money and it's in the price range I feel comfortable with, I really want to play it though.

Just buy the damned game, if you're over 27 / 28 or so it's totally worth it.
The game is an excellent throwback to the old days, yet adopts many new gameplay mechanics from today, without diluting the experience.
It's clunky in parts but not 'bad' at all. A few levels look a little bland, some polygons lacking, some texture detail and lighting passes - but that's only a few and nothing shockingly bad at all. In some sections I've been just outright wowed by the graphics actually.
The one liners, comedy and stuff has been easily 80% funny, there's 15% cringeworthy and 5% holy fuck did they just say that (also funny) (I liked the "I thought this was an out hole or one direction only?" or some kind of comment on the flesh asshole door things)
The 2 weapon thing isn't a showstopper.
Seriously, I really think anyone old enough to remember Duke who can look back fondly should pick this up and just switch off for a while. It's not perfect but it's significantly better than I expected and worth it for older gamers.
The young guys are either going to fucking detest it, or love it, I doubt there will be an inbetween.
(I must be about 3/4 of the way through)

having finished duke forever, all I can say is it sucks honestly. I don't remember the last time I've played a more mediocre brown shooter. They've done the impossible and actually pussyfied the duke . Man, I loved duke 3d but this....is nothing like that. Some of you may like it, that's fine, but it just doesn't click with me at all. What a disappointment.

it's not just that man, or the regenerating health either. It's what happens to him during the game.warning some spoilers! the duke faints twice in the game. once leading to a totally unnecessary level in his own titty bar where you go around trying to find a fucking vibrator. next time is near the end when duke almost drowns and is rescued by some EDF guy doing mouth to mouth. there's that time when you're shrunk and doing mario style jumping puzzles in duke burker (the hero of the planet is jumping on hamburger buns) . There more too but you'll see for your self. The only really good part is the beginning when you fight in the stadium and the last battle ( which is the same battle actually )
-
How is the titty bar an unnecessary level? it fits in well with what type of game DNF is and plays off interaction. The duke burger thing is also reaching, just look at how much ownage the duke lays down when mini.
How about all the shit that makes duke completely kick ass? like throwing rats at laser trip mines and punching aliens in the balls?
Everyone seems to focus on the negatives with this game, srsly wtf.-
i found it unnecessary because this game is supposed to be a shooter. I know duke is this larger than life character but shouldn't he be kicking alien ass instead of ogling tits? Like I said, if you like this more power to you, personally I think I'm gonna play duke 3d with the high resolution models to get the "duke experience".
"Everyone seems to focus on the negatives with this game, srsly wtf." - maybe everyone is feeling too much disappointment. Glad you like it though, have fun. -
For one thing, they literally just threw in a stripper level because they don't have strippers anywhere else in the game, and fans would be angry if they didn't get it.
It's stupid, because at least in Duke 3D the strip joint was actually part of a level. In Forever it's thrown in with absolutely no reason other than straight fanservice; if it got cut from the game it wouldn't have mattered a damn bit.
I have nothing against there being strippers in the game, as it's part of what gave Duke3D it's juvenile thrill, but having it as a dream between action sequences (With a goddamned fetch quest being the only reason to not just run straight out the door) is just an astoundingly poor way of handling it.
I mean, christ, Duke's in Vegas for fucks sake. How the hell could they not figure out a way of getting Duke into a strip joint other than waving their hands and going DOODLYDOODLYDOODLY?

After years of jokes, and much better games developed and released, Duke Nukem Forever will be released. The reviews are coming in and it's not looking good for this relic. Most, should not be surprised by this. Blame it on gearbox? Blame it on GB and 3drealms?
At the end of the day, who gives a shit? The game is garbage and should have been out on the curb twelve years ago. Bravo clowns. The lot of you.
