Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary confirmed, coming Nov. 15
Microsoft has confirmed one of its worst kept secrets for 2011 -- the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary re-mastered release.
[Update] 343 Industries top-dog Frank O'Connor clarified the multiplayer aspect of Halo: CE Anniversary on SpikeTV, noting that the multiplayer component actually feeds into Halo: Reach--though a copy of Reach is not required to play. Other than the online co-op, Halo: CE Anniversary does not feature multiplayer.
[Original Story] Microsoft has confirmed one of its worst kept secrets for 2011 -- the original Halo title will receive a re-mastered release, entitled the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary later this year.
Microsoft has confirmed that Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will be a retail product and retail for $39.99 when it launches on November 15.
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is set to launch on November 15, 2011. The game will feature the original game's campaign, re-mastered using the Halo Reach engine. Also, Halo: CE Anniversary includes online co-op play via Xbox Live.
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will feature six remakes of "classic" Halo and Halo 2 multiplayer maps, including Damnation, which will be featured at E3 2011.
"Developed in collaboration with Certain Affinity, the new multiplayer maps are included on the 'Halo: Anniversary' game disc, which means players will not need to own the original 'Halo: Reach' game to play," Microsoft revealed in a fact sheet for the game.
Additionally, Microsoft notes that players will be able to "uncover never-before-revealed backstories told in motion-graphic form that foreshadow new mysteries in the story of "Halo 4."

Hijackr} What generation of consoles and beyond do you feel no longer require remakes of their games? I support remakes the from NES, SNES, PS1, N64 and older eras, because the advanced technology of today often more fully realizes game worlds from those eras. I point to RE1 on GameCube as perhaps the greatest remake ever made. And reboots are an exception, as those are more intended to take a game in a new direction for a new audience.
But I can't say the majority of PS3 and 360 games--and even many games from the last generation of consoles--needing remakes due to exponentially more sophisticated technology coming along. -

When I first heard about about this I was SO excited. I thought that Halo 1 remade with today's graphics engines would be one of the sweetest things ever. And then I saw the trailer. -sad face- I might pick it up used in the 5 dollar bin at Gamestop. Way to treat the franchise that let you kick in the door to the console business Microsoft.

Having taken the time to reflects, I get it.
Halo 1 is very different from the others. In fact, the series as a whole has seen a few major shifts. I've enjoyed every game except ODST, and each game has had its strengths.
I thought Halo:CE was the best of the Halo games up until Reach was released. So, you have every right to only care for CE.
I guess I was surprised at how adamant you were in how you expressed your opinion.
I'm excited about the remake. Halo:CE holds a special place in my memories. I don't know if an update will recapture that. I also hope that they are judicious in what they change. (I like the inclusion of assassinations, for example)
Locatersixteen, there are plenty of wonderful video games for us all to enjoy.

I was thinking months ago that they should redo Halo 1 and 2 in the Reach engine...but they should be Xbox live games and $20-30 each. (Yet again, what I'd expect to pay for a 360 game is less than they're actually charging. Maybe I need to get my head checked for inflation.)
$40 seems a bit too much, though.
